나전함은 옻칠한 목재 위에 자개를 박아 장식한 고급 목제함으로 귀중품이나 문방구 등을 보관하는 용도였습니다. 특히 조선 후기에는 연화도, 화조도, 십장생도 등의 길상 문양이 유행하여 나전함에 표현되었습니다. 조형 과정이 까다롭고 재료가 귀해 주로 왕실이나 양반가에서 사용하였습니다.
이 유물은 사방에 학과 버들, 대나무, 매화, 나비, 구름 등 자연 풍경이 섬세하게 묘사되었습니다. 이는 장수, 절개, 화합, 재생, 평안 등 염원한 삶의 가치를 나타냅니다.
전면 중앙의 긴 철제 장석은 잠금장치이자 손잡이 기능을 겸해, 사용에 편리를 더합니다. 모서리에는 금속 장석을 부착하여 견고함을 더하였습니다.

螺钿盒是于漆面木材上镶嵌贝壳装饰的高级木制盒，常用于存放贵重物品或文房用具。特别是在朝鲜后期，莲花、花鸟、十长生等寓意吉祥的图案广泛流行，并常见于螺钿工艺之中。由于制作工艺繁复、材料珍贵，螺钿盒主要用于王室与两班阶层。
本器四周以螺钿细致描绘仙鹤、杨柳、竹、梅、蝴蝶与云彩等自然景象，寓意长寿、气节、和合、新生与安宁，反映了人们对理想生活的美好愿望。
正面中央为长条形铁质金属饰件，兼具锁扣与提手之功能，提升使用便利性。四角配有金属护件，加强结构稳固性。

A najeonham is a refined wooden box decorated with mother-of-pearl inlay on a lacquered surface, used to store valuables or stationery. During the late Joseon period, auspicious motifs such as lotus flowers, birds and flowers, and the ten symbols of longevity were popular and frequently featured on these boxes. The process of crafting these boxes was complex, and the materials costly, making them items primarily used by the royal court or the yangban (aristocratic) class.
This artifact is adorned on all sides with delicate depictions of natural scenes, including cranes, willows, bamboo, plum blossoms, butterflies, and clouds—each symbolizing values such as longevity, integrity, harmony, regeneration, and peace.
The long iron fitting at the center of the front serves as both a lock and handle, enhancing practicality. Metal fittings are also applied at the corners for added durability.
